Who we are.

Why House of Turing.

House of Turing is the group’s technology company, named after Alan Turing. He is best known for his part in breaking the Enigma code at Bletchley Park, work historians credit with shortening the Second World War. His larger legacy came before and after it.

In 1936 he described a single machine that could carry out any task written down as a series of steps, the idea behind every computer since. In 1950, in his paper Computing Machinery and Intelligence, he asked whether machines could think. His answer was practical: judge a machine by what it actually does, and build machines that learn from experience rather than trying to program everything in. That is close to how machine learning works today, more than seventy years before it reached everyday business.

He was clear-eyed about the risks too. He expected intelligent machines to make mistakes, warned that the people teaching a learning machine would often not know quite what was going on inside it, and foresaw machines one day outstripping the people who built them. Long before anyone spoke of responsible AI, he was asking the questions it tries to answer.

We take three things from him. Test AI on real work and judge it by results. Keep people in charge, with clear owners, human review where it matters and the evidence to show it works. And use AI to augment people, not replace their judgement: the best results come when people and machines each do what they do best.
