How many hours go into re-keying and reports?

List the reports, re-keying, checking and chasing your team does each week. See the hours they take, how many could realistically be automated, and what that time is worth.

Cost of time
Median full-time pay is £20.81 an hour (ONS, April 2026). Adding employer National Insurance and the minimum pension, spread over actual working hours, gives about £28.
About 37.5 hours a week over 44 working weeks, after holidays and absence.

How it works

The sums, in plain sight.

Hours a year = hours each time x times a month x 12 x people doing it. Hours that could be automated apply a share by kind of task: re-keying 80%, recurring reports 70%, checking and reconciling 60%, chasing 40%, anything else 30%. These shares are our working assumptions, not published benchmarks.

The value of the time uses the cost of an hour of staff time. The default of £28 starts from the ONS median of £20.81 an hour for full-time employees (April 2026), adds employer National Insurance at 15% above £5,000 a year and the 3% minimum employer pension, and spreads the total over 1,650 working hours a year.

Time saved is only worth money if it is put to better use. The real prize is usually faster, more reliable information, not fewer people.
